Elizabeth has been part of the Nayamba community since she was old enough to start school, and over the years she has become known among her teachers for her discipline, her kindness toward other pupils, and her genuinely exemplary conduct.

Her family has faced real financial hardship after her father was seriously injured, and Nayamba supported Elizabeth through its hardship programme so she could keep attending without interruption.

Charity Musunga

Grade 9

A voice for others

Charity has grown up with the support of extended family, and despite a path that has not always been easy, she has become known at Nayamba as an exceptionally intelligent and engaged student.

In 2024 she performed an original poem to visiting guests from the UK, speaking powerfully about resilience, finding a way forward, and standing up against bullying, peer pressure, and other challenges facing young people.

"Allow me to express my ego before I introduce myself. If I was a king I would have said my people. But now I am a learner, I am a leader, I am a speaker, and I am a speaker of the voices at Nayamba School.

Today I am standing before you but please let me first introduce myself. I am a student but not just any student. Not just a trap in an ocean but the whole ocean in a trap. I am Charity, a Grade 9 student at Nayamba School, the school that matters and counts to all of us here.

Like I said, every person has an obstacle to fight each and every day. Like I said, where there is a will there is a way, a will to fight your everyday obstacle and a will to fight what you are facing. There is a way when you are willing. If you are not willing you will not find a way. There are so many obstacles that we are together fighting, like bullying, peer pressure, substance abuse, and teenage pregnancy.

Boys and girls, I want to say that we are the future. We have to fight and ensure we have zero bullying, peer pressure, substance abuse, and teenage pregnancy. This is our world, this is our body, we have to say no to bullying, peer pressure, substance abuse, and teenage pregnancy."
Charity, in her own words, 2024 UK Nayamba Visit

She is a passionate advocate for environmental protection and for pupils having a voice in decisions that affect their school and community, qualities her teachers believe point toward real future leadership.

How you can get involved

One off Fundraising events

There are so many one-off events that schools can undertake in support of Nayamba. For example, some of our students walk more than 10k to school…every day! Why not organise a sponsored 10k walk around your sports field and link it to the distance walked by our students.

Nominate Nayamba as your chosen charity

Some schools prefer to nominate a chosen charity for the year and we’d love for that to be Nayamba! We’re happy to work with you to provide support in your school, whether that’s by providing talks / assemblies or even some direct connection with the school. Please get in touch.

Whole school programme

Maybe you don’t have a chosen charity in your school but would like to help your children learn about cultural differences around the globe. Our free resources can help you plan events, regular fundraising or even assemblies.
